Definitions: In this document capitalized words have the following meanings:
“Licensee” means Scotia Chamber Players;
“Draw Number” means a unique multi-digit of number which represent a single entry in the Raffle;
“Participant’ includes a real person who purchases a Ticket, attempts to purchase a Ticket, receives a free Ticket, finds a Ticket, or attempts to redeem a Ticket as a winning Ticket to claim a Prize;
“Prize” has the meaning set out in Section 6.0;
“Official Rules” means this document as may be amended;
“Raffle” means an electronic prize raffle or 50/50 raffle (online) being offered by the Licensee;
“Ticket” means a document (paper or electronic) which records one or more Draw Numbers in the possession of the Participant which allow the Participant to participate in a particular Raffle.
“Winner" means the Participant(s) who complied with all the requirements in these Official Rules and who holds a ticket with the winning Ticket Number;
1.0 Official Rules: A Participant by choosing to participate in a Raffle agrees to be irrevocably bound by these Official Rules and by the decisions of the Licensee, which shall be binding and final as to all matters related to each Raffle.
2.0 Raffles:
2.1 Raffles will be conducted by Licensee at the following times and prices:

50/50 Raffle: Sales open on November 4th at 10 am (AST) and close on December 18th at 3:30 pm (AST)
Early Bird Prize Draw Schedule - draw will occur following the closing of sales
Draw #1: Sales open on November 4th at 10 am (AST) and close on November 20th after the conclusion of the intermission of that evening’s Music Room Chamber Players Series concert.
Draw #2: Sales open on November 4th at 10 am (AST) and close on December 4th after the conclusion of the intermission of that evening’s Music Room Chamber Players Series concert.
Draw #3: Sales open on November 4th at 10 am (AST) and close on December 11th after the conclusion of the intermission of that evening’s Music Room Chamber Players Series concert.
Prize Raffle Tickets: Ticket pricing shall be:
Regular: One hundred dollars ($100.00) for one (1) raffle number
Discount 1: Two hundred and fifty dollars ($250.00) for five (5) raffle numbers
Discount 2: Three hundred dollars ($300.00) for thirty (30) raffle numbers
50/50 Raffle Tickets: Ticket pricing shall be:
Regular: Twenty five dollars ($25.00) for one (1) raffle number
Discount 1: Fifty dollars ($50.00) for ten (10) raffle numbers
Discount 2: One hundred dollars ($100.00) for one hundred (100) raffle numbers
Participants must purchase at least one ticket in the Prize Raffle to be eligible to purchase any tickets in the 50/50 Raffle.
Inquiries can be directed to admin@scotiafestival.com. The Licensee reserves the right to modify the conclusion of the Raffle for any reason and at any time with or without notice, including to close the Raffle early.
2.2 Each Ticket is the receipt for the Participant and represents one or more Draw Numbers, each of which is entered into the Raffle. Draw Numbers are not eligible for entry into past or future Raffles. There is no limit to the number of Draw Numbers an entrant may purchase for a Raffle, subject to availability. Raffle Tickets are not transferable. All sales of Tickets are final and no refunds shall be made under any circumstance. Raffle Ticket purchases are not donations and are not tax deductible.
3.0 Eligibility: At the time of entry, the Raffle is open to real persons who are nineteen (19) years of age or older and can provide valid government-issued identification upon request. Raffle is void where prohibited by law, rule or regulation. All federal, state, provincial and local laws and regulations apply.
4.0 Excluded Individuals. No employee, director, officer, member, or volunteer engaged by the Licensee, or Bump Worldwide Inc./Canadian Bank Note Company, Limited may participate in the Raffle or receive a Raffle prize. The immediate family members of the identified persons above living in the same household (i.e., spouse and children) are not eligible to participate in the Raffle or receive a Raffle prize.
5.0 Prize:
5.1 For each Prize Raffle there will be a grand prize which will be either one original painting by Maud Lewis titled “Two Deer in Winter Watching Sunrise” (the “Prize”), OR a prize of thirty thousand dollars ($30,000) to be issued via cheque. The winner of the Prize Raffle may choose one of the above prizes.
5.2 For the 50/50 Raffle there will be a grand prize which will be one-half (or fifty percent (50%) of the gross proceeds collected from the sale of the Raffle tickets for that game (the “Prize”). The remaining one-half (or fifty percent (50%)) of the gross proceeds collected from the sale of Raffle tickets that are not distributed as a Prize will be used to benefit or support the charitable purposes of the Licensee, and/or pay expenses related to the operation of the Raffle, as permitted by applicable law.
5.3 In addition to the Grand Prize, the Licensee may in its discretion offer additional secondary prizes for goods, cash or services which are not linked to the gross proceeds of the Raffle (e.g.: early bird prize(s).)
6.0 Random Drawing: Every transaction is electronically tallied. For each Raffle, the potential winner of the grand Prize and each secondary prize (if any) will be selected by random drawing from among all eligible Draw Numbers received during the applicable entry period in accordance with applicable law. There will be one (1) potential winner chosen for each Prize. The potential winner does not need to be present to claim the prize. If for some unforeseen reason (e.g., weather delay, power outage, emergency, or other reasonably unforeseen event) the Raffle is not completed at the scheduled time, the selection of the winning Draw Number will be completed the first business day that normal business operations resume, and a notice of the winning draw number will be posted on the Licensee’s website at https://scotiaraffle.ca.
7.0 Winner Notification: The winning number of any Raffle or Early Bird Draw will be posted online at https://scotiaraffle.ca within twenty-four (24) hours after the winner has been selected and the Raffle or applicable Early Bird Draw has concluded. The Licensee will contact the winning Draw Number holder(s) directly by using the email and/or phone number provided by the ticket purchaser. In the event of a discrepancy between the actual Draw Number drawn and the announced Draw Number, the actual Draw Number drawn will be considered the valid winning ticket.
8.0 Claiming of Prizes:
8.1 All potential winners will have up to ninety (90) days following the conclusion of the applicable draw date to claim the Prize. They will need to present the winning raffle number to the Licensee. Immediately after the conclusion of any draw, Licensee will use the email and/or phone number provided by the ticket purchaser to try to contact them. The holder of the ticket containing the winning raffle number may claim their prize by emailing the office at admin@scotiafestival.com or phoning the office at 902-429-9467 with a copy of their purchase e-mail or printed ticket and mailing address. Each prize claimant must provide the Licensee with all information required by provincial gaming regulations to claim a prize. The prize claimant will be required to sign a Declaration and Release (“Release”) which must be executed and returned to the Licensee no later than five (5) business days after his/her receipt of the Release. Following verification of eligibility and the completion of all required documentation, the Licensee will mail a cheque to the winner within approximately three (3) weeks of the date of completion of all required paperwork. No cash payments will be made to any winner.
8.2 Each winner will be subject to federal, provincial and local rules and regulations regarding gambling winnings, including those of tax governing and/or enforcement agencies that the Licensee is required to comply with reporting requirements on Prize amounts imposed by state, local, provincial and/or federal laws, as applicable. Each Winner assumes all responsibility for any state, local, provincial or federal taxes, fees or other government assessments on the Prize amount. Each winner is advised to consult the winner's own tax advisor(s) with respect to the liabilities that may arise from entering the Raffle(s) and winning any Prizes.
8.3 If the potential winner fails to claim a Prize in the time period above, is determined to be ineligible, fails to submit identification or the required documents within the specified time period, or otherwise fails to comply with these Official Rules all as determined by the Licensee in its sole discretion, the potential winner will be disqualified, the Prize will be forfeited and AGFT will be contacted to determine next steps.
8.4 Prize Restrictions and Odds: A Prize is not transferable or assignable and cannot be substituted for another prize. Any and all taxes, fees, and other costs including but not limited to federal and, if applicable, state, provincial and local income and withholding taxes that may arise and be due or asserted on the value of the Prize are the sole responsibility of each Winner. Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received for the applicable Raffle.
9.0 Publicity Release: Each Raffle Winner agrees that acceptance of a Prize grants to the Licensee the right to print, publish, broadcast, and use world-wide, in any media now known or later developed at any time or times, such Raffle Winner's name, portrait, picture, voice, likeness, and biographical information for any purpose, including but not limited to in advertisements, publicity, and other communications without additional compensation, except where prohibited by law.
10.0 Release of Liability:
10.1 The Licensee and any affiliates, which includes any parent or subsidiary company, and respective shareholders, employees, directors, officers, representatives, agents, successors, and assigns, as well as the supplier of the raffle system used to conduct the Raffle (the “Released Parties”), are not responsible to the Participants for (1) entries which are stolen, lost, damaged, illegible, given away or no longer in the Participant's possession, (2) entries that have been or may have been tampered with or re-sold in violation of these Official Rules; (3) entries or payments that are delayed, misdirected, undelivered, not fully captured, or garbled; (4) any other errors of any kind, whether human, typographical, printing, mechanical, or electronic in nature, which relate to or are connected with the Raffle (collectively, as described in clauses (1) through (4), "Errors"), including without limitation Errors in Raffle-related materials or in the administration of the Raffle, such as Errors in processing entries, identifying potential winners, determining the Winners, or announcing or delivering a Prize.
10.2 Each Participant agrees to release, indemnify, defend and hold harmless the Released Parties against any and all liability, claims, actions, losses, damages, lawsuits, costs and expenses (including, without limitation, reasonable attorneys' fees) of any kind whatsoever arising directly or indirectly for injuries (including death), damages or losses to persons and property, which may be sustained in connection with the Raffle, participation in the Raffle, attempt to participate in the Raffle, receipt or use of any Prize, or while preparing for, participating, in, and/or traveling to any Prize-related activity.
11.0 Amendment of Official Rules. The Licensee reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to terminate, modify, or suspend any Raffles should the Licensee determine, in its sole discretion, that any virus, bug, non-authorized human intervention or other causes have corrupted or affected the administration, security, fairness or proper conduct of the Raffle. In such case, the winning number will be selected from among all eligible entries received prior to the aforesaid action taken by the organization. The decision of the Licensee with respect to each Raffle is final and binding.
12.0 Correction of Errors: The Licensee reserves the right to correct, typographical, clerical or printing errors in any Raffle-related materials, including these Official Rules. Released Parties are not responsible or liable for any events beyond the control of the Licensee which may cause the Raffle to be stopped, including but not limited to any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, entries, nor are the Released Parties responsible for any failure of any ticket to be delivered on account of technical problems or human error, or any combination thereof.
13.0 Disqualification of Participants. The Licensee may exclude, disqualify or terminate participation in the Raffle to any Participant who, in its sole discretion: (a) ignores these Official Rules; (b) acts in a manner the Licensee determines to be not fair; (c) acts with an intent to annoy, threaten or harass any other entrant or the Licensee; (d) acts in any other disruptive manner; or (e) tampers with the entry process. The Licensee will not replace any lost, mutilated, or stolen Tickets. The Licensee reserves the right to make changes in the rules of the Raffle, which changes will become effective upon publication of revised Official Rules at https://scotiaraffle.ca.
14.0 Limitation of Liability: A Participant’s sole and exclusive remedy for any Released Parties’ breach of duty or conduct related to the Raffle shall be limited to the return of the purchase price paid for his or her Raffle ticket(s), or where no such price was paid, the sum of $1.00. In no event shall any Released Party be liable to any Participant for any incidental, special, punitive, or consequential damages of any person or entity whether arising in contract, tort or otherwise, arising out of a Raffle.
15.0 Governing Law and Dispute Resolution: Except where prohibited by law, each Participant agrees that all issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation, and enforceability of these Official Rules, or the rights and obligations of entrants, the potential winners and the Licensee in connection with any Raffle, shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of Nova Scotia and the Nova Scotia Alcohol, Gaming, Fuel and Tobacco Division, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules or provisions that might otherwise cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction other than the Province of Nova Scotia. Any action seeking legal or equitable relief arising out of or relating to any Raffle or these Official Rules shall be brought only in the courts of the Province of Nova Scotia. All causes of action arising out of or connected with the Raffle or any Prizes awarded shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action. All claims, judgments and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, but in no event attorneys' fees and costs. The Participants hereby agree all matters will be heard by judge alone and hereby waive the right to trial by jury.

Maud Lewis Lottery
- The prize is a painting by Nova Scotia folk artist Maud Lewis: “Two Deer in Winter Watching Sunrise”, oil on beaverboard 12” x 14” valued at $35,000. The winner may choose to take $30,000 cash instead of the painting. In addition, there are three early bird prizes of $1,500 each. The early bird draws will take place on November 20, December 4 and December 11, 2024.
- The painting raffle tickets are $100 each, 5 for $250, or 30 for $300. The lottery tickets are issued by BUMP, our electronic raffle suppler, and are emailed to purchasers who provide an email address, or printed and mailed to purchasers without an email address.
- The lottery draw for the Maud Lewis painting will take place at the Music Room, 6181 Lady Hammond Road on December 18, 2024, at 4:00 pm. Three staff members will be present at the draw. The BUMP electronic raffle system will choose a winner by random number generation (RNG).
- The lottery draws for the early bird prizes will take place at the Joseph Strug Concert Hall, 1385 Seymour St (November 20) and The Music Room, 6181 Lady Hammond Road (December 4 and 11). These draws will take place immediately following the intermission of concerts in the Music Room Chamber Players Series which are taking place each of those evenings. Four staff members and the concert audiences will be present at each draw. The BUMP electronic raffle system will choose a winner by random number generation (RNG).
- The winners of the early bird prizes and the Maud Lewis painting draw are recorded on our office voicemail, posted on our website, and are listed in the subsequent draw flyer.
- The winner will be notified by phone and email.
- Ticket sales are recorded in a database and are stored by the electronic raffle supplier on a secure server.
- Anyone 19 years or older may purchase draw tickets except employees, directors, officers, members, or volunteers engaged by Scotia Chamber Players, or Bump Worldwide Inc./Canadian Bank Note Company, Limited, or their immediate family members living in the same household (i.e., spouse and children.)
- The geographic location of the lottery is Nova Scotia, and no tickets will be offered for sale outside the province.
- Draw tickets are available for purchase up to thirty minutes before the draws take place.
- Tickets can be purchased online from our website scotiaraffle.ca by Nova Scotians only.
- In the event of an unclaimed prize, a second draw will take place 90 days following the original draw date. If a winner does not come forward after the second draw, you must contact Alcohol, Gaming, Fuel, and Tobacco to advise.
